George "Buzz" J. Potthast, 74, of Goose Creek, SC, passed away on January 24, 2024. He was born on September 2, 1949, in Rural Altadena, California and eventually built his home in Goose Creek, SC.
Buzz was a proud veteran, having served in the Navy for 7.5 years, dedicating his time to serving his country and was highly regarded for his military service. He retired from the Charleston Naval Shipyard after a successful career. Buzz was also a devoted Mason and a proud member of Hammerton Lodge 332.
In his free time, Buzz enjoyed a variety of hobbies including hunting, fishing, metal detecting, and listening to rock and roll music. He was known for his adventurous spirit and love for the great outdoors.
Buzz will be deeply missed by his loving family. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Jeremy and Patricia Potthast; his daughter, Taylor Potthast; his sister, Melissa Potthast; and his brother, Charles Potthast. He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Finger Potthast; his father, Charles Potthast Jr.; and his sister, Polly Potthast.
A memorial gathering will be held between 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM on Friday, February 9, 2024, at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home in Goose Creek, SC. The compassionate professionals at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home are assisting the family with the arrangements.
