George Potzner, 83, of West Des Moines, IA, formerly of Norwalk, IA, Hazleton, PA and Tempe, AZ, peacefully entered into eternal rest on July 24, 2025 at home. He was born in Hazleton, PA, on December 8, 1941, to the late George and Nancy (Kennedy) Potzner. Throughout his career, he was a bookkeeper for a number of businesses in Hazleton, Arizona and Iowa.

George's wish was to be cremated and arrangements have been entrusted to Iles Funeral Home, 1020 Main St., Norwalk, IA. A Funeral Mass will live streamed at www.Iles FuneralHomes.com on Thursday, July 31, 2025 at 10:30 AM from St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, 720 Orchard Hills Dr., in Norwalk. Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life luncheon directly after Mass in the church hall.

George had a big heart and was well liked by everyone that knew him. He loved to fish, hunt, shoot trap, and go camping with Jeanette and his children. Over the years, he and Jeanette enjoyed some memorable vacations, especially to Bermuda, and a wonderful Alaska cruise, where they missed the ship at the Ketchikan port! Other frequent weekend getaway spots were Las Vegas or Laughlin, NV. George soon figured out he wasn't just lucky at love! Games of chance became his new favorite pastime. As a numbers guy, he had fun playing the lottery, too!

Those left to honor his memory include his loving wife of over 60 years, Jeanette (Barna), daughter Mary (Potzner) French, son George (Julie) Potzner; his 4 grandchildren, Megan French (Matthew Blanker), Tyler (Catherine) French, Travis (Morgan) Potzner, and Alexandria (Alex) Wetrich; as well as his 4 great- grandchildren Briana French, Hailey Kruger, Trevor Blanker, Harvey Potzner, (and another one on the way) all in Iowa. He is also survived by his sisters, Rosemary Labanoski and Jean Ann Frakes, both of Gilbert, AZ; two sisters-in-law, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Jean Mary in 1966, and his brother Joseph (Joe) of Hazleton, PA, in 2021.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in his honor to Unity Point Hospice Iowa, The American Cancer Society, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
