George D. Quickenton

1931 - 2022

Quickenton, George D. LOUDONVILLE George D. Quickenton passed away peacefully on March 16, 2022, after a brief illness. He was born in Albany on December 9, 1931, the son of George and Clara Quickenton. George was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. His most cherished times were spending time with family for which he was most proud of. He enjoyed many activities such as gardening, woodworking, fishing and finding little projects around the house to keep him busy. Many trips were made to the casino with his wife Betty where they usually came home with a little extra. As a child, George spent many summers in Vermont and enjoyed taking trips to see family to this day. He was corporal in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War and was very proud to say he was a Marine. George worked for the Latham Water District for over 30 plus years and retired in 1994. He loved spending time at his "vacation home" where he would sit on the deck enjoying a cold beer and watch the wildlife wander through. George will be known for his big heart, his love of life and his kindness to help anyone that needed it. George is survived by his daughter, Lisa (Mike) Spooner; his granddaughters, Rachael Rousseau and Christine Kelsch; along with his dear friend who became family, Marie Tucker. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren and many other nieces, nephews and relatives. He shared a special bond with his nephew, Joey. George was predeceased by his wife of over 68 years, Elizabeth "Betty"; his daughter, Patricia "Patty" Kelsch; and his brother, Joseph. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, March 23, from 5-7 p.m. at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be on Thursday March 24, at 10 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment with military honors will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery.
