George H. Rigby, age 82, of Brookhaven, Pa., passed away October 10, 2025, peacefully at home surrounded by his family. Born in Media, PA, to the late William C. & Dorothy (nee McCullough), Rigby, George was raised in Media & graduated from Media High School Class of 1962. George worked in the family funeral business assisting his father at the William C Rigby Funeral home, 4th St Media Pa. Soon after George joined the US Navy serving honorably from 1964-1967. In February of 1969 George began his career as a Patrolmen with the Nether Providence Police Dept, in April of 1984 he moved to the Detective Division & returning to Patrol Division in 1998 until his retirement in 2004. George was very dedicated to his profession and was known by all throughout the Law Enforcement community. He was a Member of Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 27 Delaware County Pa.
Upon his retirement George assisted his son as a skilled craftsman in the home remodeling business & ultimately found his way back to the family funeral business he knew so well, working with his cousin, J. Nelson Rigby & Sons & many others in Delaware County.
George was also active in the County Fire Service, serving in his younger years at Media Fire & Hook & Ladder, Life Member of Middletown Fire Co. & most recently with Brookhaven Fire Co.
George was an avid boater & fisherman, bass on the lake, stripers on the Delaware or tuna in the canyon, George showed everyone the way. He also enjoyed Hunting, Deer camp with family & friends in Sullivan & Bradford County Pa. He most enjoyed pulling his boat for the long haul north for their annual weeklong fishing trip to Poplars Resort in Newboro, Canada with his wife Lois. George always looked forward getting together for a meal with all his friends from POOP (Police Officers on Pension) Club.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years Lois M. (nee Marriott) Rigby, his children: William C. Rigby (Kelly) Media Pa, Stephanie Batter (Wm Gartland) of Essington Pa, & Sherri Rostek (William) of Rising Sun, Md Grandchildren: Samantha Pickeral, Abigail G. Rigby, Olivia K. Rigby Gabrielle & Liam Rostek & (4) Great Grandchildren.
Relatives and Friends may call Thursday October 16th, from 6-9 pm, at the J. Nelson Rigby Funeral Home 1 W. Baltimore Avenue Media, Pa 19063. Calling Friday from 9-10:30 in Nativity BVM Church, 30 E. Franklin St, Media followed by his Funeral Mass at 10:30am. Interment Media Cemetery.
