On September 2, 2025, Paul Joseph DeMarco returned home to our Lord after a two-month battle with heart failure. He was born on March 1, 1929 in Newburgh, New York, to Vincent (Jimmy) and Rose DeMarco (Contarino). Paul was the first kid on the block to attend college, traveling all the way to Purdue University. After graduation and while working for DuPont, Paul met Joan Comiskey at a dance on the rooftop of the Philadelphia YMCA. They were married in Newburgh, NY, on May 31, 1953. Paul is survived by his four children Kevin (Bernice), Kathy (Joe), Paul (Donna), and Mike (Tracy); four grandchildren Paul (Kelly), Stephanie (Jayson), Jack (Tori), and Dylan; and eight great-grandchildren Victor, Connor, Lincoln, Dominic, Emery, Andre, Elowyn, and Hank.
Joan and Paul began their married life in Philadelphia, but after a few years, they moved to Jacksonville, FL, while Paul was on active duty with the US Navy. After completing his tour of duty, Paul and Joan returned to Philadelphia and continued his work with DuPont. Soon, Paul's job took them on a whirlwind tour across the United States, with stops in Fort Madison, IA; Wilmington, DE; Toledo, OH; Grand Blanc, MI; back to Fort Madison; then Colombia, TN; before returning in 1982 close to where it all started, in Media, PA. In Media, he was very active at Nativity BVM Church, including becoming a 4th degree Knight of Columbus. He and Joan were also active in the Nativity seniors' club.
Paul will always be remembered for his smile and genuine concern for others. A truly humble man, he took the time to get to know everyone who crossed his path. He lived a life rooted in sharing God's love generously. That love was demonstrated through his devotion to his family and his faith, with an especially deep love and adoration of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Paul remained devoted to Joan, with their love growing even stronger over the years. His faith also helped him cope with his grief after Joan's passing in 2020. Paul cherished his Phillies and Eagles, as well as the Purdue Boilermakers football and basketball teams.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Viewing on Monday, September 8th, from 6 to 8 PM at J. Nelson Rigby Funeral Home, 1 W. Baltimore Ave., Media, PA. A second Viewing will be held on Tuesday, September 9th, at Nativity BVM Church, 30 E. Franklin St., Media, PA. from 9:15 to 10:15 AM followed by the funeral mass from 10:30 to 11:30 AM.
In lieu of flowers, you may wish to make a donation to Nativity BVM Church, 30 E. Franklin Street, Media, PA 19063. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Paul, please visit our Tree Store.
