George Ropp Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Legends Tri County Funeral Home on May 31, 2022.
On March 27, 2022, George E. Ropp passed away in San Marcos, Texas at the age of 88. George was the son of Elmer Elijah Ropp and Agnes Marie (Block) Ropp. After graduating from Halstead High School and serving in the U.S. Army (1951-53), George married his high school sweetheart, Carolyn Ann (Sundbye) Ropp on June 25, 1955. They were the first couple married in the current Halstead United Methodist Church. In the early years of their marriage, George ran Ropp Supply and Service in downtown Halstead and served on Halstead's city council. George's work ultimately took him and his family to Texas in 1974, and some observers noticed that he gained a slight Texas accent after living there for decades. George worked until the age of 80, which helped keep him active. Carolyn's insistence that he eat healthy likely also contributed to his long life. George was preceded in death by his soulmate and his wife of 64 years, Carolyn, who passed away on June 23, 2019. George's family filled him with pride (although he did say Carolyn deserved all the credit for how their children turned out), and he is survived by four children: Gregory (children Audrey and Andy, grandchildren Amethyst and Quentin), Gail (husband, Gene, children Jason and Rachel, grandchild Talen), Nancy (wife, Tammy), and Anna (a.k.a., Stacy). In addition, he leaves two remaining siblings, Arlene (Ropp) Amis of Wichita and Bill Ropp of Burton. Not mentioned are beloved in-laws, nieces/nephews, family, and friends who will miss George's calm, quiet, and strong presence. After consulting George in the last days of his life, his children have chosen not to hold a memorial service. They will be spreading both parents' ashes in a small, private gathering. In lieu of flowers or gifts, a donation to the Alzheimer's Association (for Carolyn, as George would have wanted) would be appreciated.
