George Jackson "Jack" Schlageter, born on November 2, 1950, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed away tragically in an automobile accident on October 29, 2024, in Carrizozo, New Mexico, along with his wife Jacquelyn.
Jack graduated high school in Grundy County, Tennessee, where he played the trumpet in the school band and was the captain his senior year. Following his education, he served in the Coast Guard for six years during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1975, after his daughter Melissa was born. He was known for his skills as a AAA master mechanic, having an incredible ability to diagnose an engine just by listening to it.
Jack was a devoted family man who cherished his loved ones and worked hard to ensure their well-being. Jack and Jackie's marriage was deeply rooted in faith.
He had a deep love for the outdoors but could not bring himself to hunt due to his love for animals. Jack's fondness extended to his last dog, Shaggy, who brought joy to his life. His personality was a blend of kindness and a bit of stubbornness. He kept in touch with his siblings as frequently as possible, despite the distance between them.
Jack is survived by his daughter, Melissa Schlageter; his son, Fred Jackson Schlageter, and wife Kim; his brother, Jimmy Schlageter, and wife Karen; his brother, David Schlageter, and wife Lynn; his sister, Rosa Moon, and husband Bob; his sister-in-law, Marilyn Hatvany; His nephew Chandler Moon, great nephew Dakota Moon, great niece Alexis; nieces Ann Hartline and Cheryl Winters and their families. He is also survived by numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Marion Schlageter; his son, John Michael Schlageter; his in-laws, Frank and Delores Hatvany; his nephews, Bobby Moon and Stephen Hatvany; and sisters-in-law Carolyn Vinca and Susie Schlageter, his nephew in law David Hartline along with his brother-in-law, Richard Hatvany and wife Rosemary.
