George J. Schmidt III

George J. Schmidt III, 73, of Napoleon, Ohio died peacefully on Thursday, March 9, 2023 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo, Ohio. He was born November 6th, 1949 in Columbus, Ohio to the late George J. and Nina (Dyer) Schmidt, II. On September 27, 1980 he married Tamara Sue (Alexander) Schmidt at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Napoleon.
George served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was exposed to Agent Orange. His military background helped in his transition to the police force. He served as Chief of Police for the City of Napoleon for over 10 years. He was a member of the Bert G. Taylor American Legion Post 300.
After retirement George enjoyed golfing and traveling with his family. He loved passing his golf knowledge to others and helped teach Napoleon Junior Golf.
George is survived by his wife, Tammy; son, Brian (Erica) Schmidt; grandsons, Cole; and Logan; siblings, James Schmidt, Janet Schmidt, Virginia (Glen) Christian, and William Schmidt. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Mary Schmidt.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 18th, 2023 at Rodenberger-Gray Funeral Home, Napoleon, Ohio, where visitation will be held from 9-11 a.m.
