George F. Shaffer, Jr., 80, of Chambersburg, passed away on Friday, August 30, 2024 at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born July 24, 1944 in Frederick, MD, he was the son of the late George F. Shafferand Edith Long Shaffer.
George was a 1962 graduate of Boonsboro High School. A US Army Veteran, he served honorably during the Vietnam War. He was employed with the Department of Agriculture as an Animal Caretaker Foreman for 42 years until his retirement. George was a member of the VFW Post 1599 and the American Legion Post 46, both in Chambersburg, NARFE and AARP. He enjoyed traveling to Disney World, camping, farming and tractors.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Judith L. Bowers Shaffer, whom he married on May 4, 1968; two children, Robyn Fisher and husband Chad of Westminster, MD, and George F. Shaffer III and wife Ching of Silver Spring, MD; and six grandchildren, Ethan, Gavin, Mason and Chace Fisher, and Nathan and Tyler Shaffer.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. Rev. Dr. A. Robert Cook will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society at cancer.org. Condolences and memories may be shared at geiselfuneralhome.com.
