George R. Smolak, age 96, of North Ridgeville, passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025 at Danbury Senior Living in North Ridgeville. He was born in Nashua, New Hampshire, grew up in Somerville, New Jersey and had been a resident of North Ridgeville since 2023. He previously lived in Strongsville and Berea. George graduated from the University of Michigan with a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He worked as an engineer for the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and Analex Corporation. He was an avid sports fan, especially for the University of Michigan and enjoyed working on cars and playing cards. While living at Olympia in Strongsville, he was active on various committees. Survivors include his wife of 73 years, Frances, daughters, Nancy (Don) Waldroup of Roswell, Georgia, Barbara Embry of North Olmsted, Carol (Tim) Miranda of Middleburg Hts., grandchildren, David (Angela) Waldroup, Daniel (Megan) Waldroup, Jonathan (Ashley) Waldroup, Sarah (Fernando) Castellani, Steve (Kristen) Miranda, Nicole (Nick) Wainscott, Jeff (Sarah) Miranda, 11 great-grandchildren, sister, Anna Eldridge of Pennsylvania, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Frances (nee Harris) Smolak and sister, Jean Northam. A Private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to The Salvation Army at www.salvationarmy.org
