George Pierce Stanford III, 78, of Nebo, went to be with the Lord on Monday, September 23, 2024 at Mission Hospital McDowell after a brief illness.
He was born in Oak Ridge, Tennessee on May 17, 1946 to the late George Pierce Stanford Jr. and Audrie McCurry Stanford. He was also preceded in death by a great-grandson, Canaan Sayles.
George was a hard worker who spent a number of years working construction. He began his career as a brick mason, and he later became a general contractor. He also worked as a real estate agent. He will be most remembered for his love for his family and his sense of humor. George was a member of Oakley Baptist Church in Asheville. He was a devoted Christian man who loved the Lord wholeheartedly.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 56 years, Mary Rhodes Stanford; daughter, Andrea Sayles (Wade); grandsons, Caleb Sayles (Courtney) and Jared Sayles; two great-grandchildren, Emily and Ezra Sayles; two siblings, Tom Stanford (Joyce) and Elaine Deaner (Calvin); and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, October 23, 2024 at 11:00 am at Woodlawn Cemetery in Asheville.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make memorial donations are asked to consider The Light 106.9, of which George was a faithful listener and donor. Donations may be mailed to Blue Ridge Broadcasting, PO Box 159, Black Mountain, NC 28711.
