George P. Summers, Jr., 83, of East Liverpool, passed away Sunday evening, April 14, 2024, at home surrounded by his loving family. Big George aka "The Chief" maintained a lifetime of unconditional love for his family, God, and country. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army. Most importantly, George was a dedicated provider for his family, logging 36 years of long hours on a job he loved, as a lineman for American Electric Power. He was active in the East Liverpool Men's Christian Softball League and was inducted into their Hall of Fame. A devoted St. Aloysius Church parishioner and council member, George cherished such fellowship and camaraderie. He was an avid fisherman, bladesmith, and walking stick maker, as he felt a special connection with Native American history. A gentle giant, George never met a stranger and would go out of his way, with a smile on his face, to help anyone who needed it.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Jerry Lynn (Wilson) Summers, a daughter Teresa (Bill) Crawford, their sons Jordan and Owen, brother Charles "Ed" Summers, sister Mary Jane (Bill) Cunningham, sons George and James, grandchildren Alexis, Cameron, and Parker, and his beloved dogs Odie and Murphy.
George was born in East Liverpool on December 25, 1940, to the late George P. Summers Sr. and Edna (Rolley) Summers.
Friends are invited to visit with George's family at the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester, WV on Wednesday, April 17, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 pm with Pastor John Smith officiating. George will be laid to rest at Riverview Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group.
In place of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to Communicycle through their website at communicycle.org.
