George Raymond Tavenner, Jr., 83, of Prince Frederick passed away June 15, 2025. He was born June 30, 1941, in Washington, DC to George Raymond Tavenner, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Snyder. George grew up in Silver Spring and graduated from Montgomery Blair High School in 1959. He joined the United States Navy and served as a Gunners Mate on the USS Ault before being honorably discharged in 1963. He later attended Ben Franklin University where he obtained a bachelor's degree in accountancy. George enjoyed a successful career of 20 years in the private sector and 25 years with the Department of Defense. George loved serving his country, but 1 place was serving the Lord, family, and others. He served as a Deacon in several MD and DE churches and loved helping others grow in their spiritual journey. George enjoyed collecting Lionel trains, guns, and classic cars, especially his 1965 Ford Falcon Convertible. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
George is survived by his loving wife Corrine Tavenner (Harris), children Raymond Tavenner (Jammie) of Westminster, Sharon Strand (David) of St. Leonard, and Karen O'Connor (Dennis) of Port Republic, grandchildren David (Adriana), Jacob, Jessica, Jenna, Austin, Jocelynn, and Lucas, great-granddaughter Sofia, brother Skip Prather (Carol), sister in law Susan Harris and her family (Greg, Phil, and Donna), and special friends John Mancuso and Susan Burch and their family (Elaine and Mike). He was preceded in death by siblings Nancy, Janet, and Jesse, and brother in laws Delbert and Elmer Harris.
In lieu of flowers donations in George's name can be made to the the Make a Wish Foundation or Emmanuel Church Celebrate Recovery Fund at the address and links below.
