George Thullen, 76 of Unionville, Missouri passed away Sunday, March 16, 2025 at Mercy One – Des Moines.
George was born to Edwin & Rose Thullen on September 14, 1948 in Chicago, Illinois. He received his education from Quigley Preparatory Seminary. He was united in marriage to Lorena Pauline Bailey on December 31, 1988 at the Episcopal Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. George had four children: Jennifer, Edwin, Isaac and Peter.
George's early career was spent in the Navy as a Machinist's Mate on nuclear powered submarines. He continued to work in the Nuclear Power industry after his time in the Navy – becoming a highly specialized instructor and contractor for writing and administering certification exams for nuclear power plant operators at multiple locations across the country.
In his free time, George enjoyed fishing, golfing, playing cards with his family and friends, and sitting on the porch with his coffee. He will also be remembered as a baby whisperer who never missed an opportunity to hold and sing to the babies in the family.
Survivors include his sons: Peter Thullen (Raelynn), Isaac Thullen, Edwin Thullen, grandchildren: Andromeda Thullen, Rhea Thullen, siblings: Frank Thullen, Tom Thullen (Deb), Kathy Osial, John Thullen (Connie), and numerous extended family. He was preceded in death by his wife Lorena Thullen in September, 2024, daughter, Jennifer Thullen, March, 2022, sister, Louise O'Loughlin and his parents.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, April 12, 2025 at the Unionville, MO Methodist Church at 11:00 AM. Visitation will take place before from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Memorials may be given to the family
