George Alan Tremaine, Jr. of Norwell, MA, formerly of Quincy and Dorchester, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2025.
Devoted husband of Joan M. Tremaine (Robinson) for 62 years. Beloved son of the late George and Daisy Tremaine of Hanover, MA. Predeceased by his siblings Kenneth Tremaine of Pawtucket, RI, Ruth Tremaine-Giambarba of Centerville, MA, and David Tremaine of Hanover, MA.
Loving father of Marcia Tremaine Carieri and her husband James of California, and Nancy Tremaine Bent and her husband Jim of Rockland, MA. Proud grandfather of Kevin Tremaine Moriarty and Jimmy Bent, Jr. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
George proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1955 to 1959, stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska, where he worked as a Crypto Operator.
After his military service, George worked as a jeweler in Boston for several years before beginning a 30-year career with the United States Postal Service at the main mail facility in Boston. After a brief retirement, he returned to work as an overnight concierge-first at the Charles River Condominiums, and later at the Marina Bay Condominiums. A natural night owl, George enjoyed the overnight shift, where he relished meeting and talking to people from all walks of life.
George and Joan spent much of their adult life in Dorchester, where they raised their family and were devoted members of their community and their church, St. Mary's Episcopal Church. George served the church in many roles-including Eucharistic Minister, choir member, and vestry member. Together, George and Joan dedicated themselves to supporting and growing the church. After moving to Quincy, they became active members of St. Chrysostom's Episcopal Church.
An artist at heart, George loved to draw and paint-creating everything from nature scenes and animals to cartoons. He especially enjoyed making birthday and holiday posters to bring cheer to friends and neighbors at Brookdale Senior Living, and later at The Cordwainer. His artwork was a joyful gift to those around him and a reflection of his generous spirit.
Relatives and friends are invited to a funeral service at Saint Chrysostom's Episcopal Church, 1 Linden Street, Quincy, MA 02170 on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of George may be made to one of his favorite charities, the American Cancer Society.
