George A. Van Liere, age 79, of McHenry passed away December 7, 2024. Loving husband to Donna, nee McDonald, for 56 wonderful years. Devoted father to Lisa (Scott) Schwartz, of McHenry IL and Mark Van Liere of Stowe, Vt. Beloved grandfather to Katelyn (Eric) Lostroscio, Samantha Van Liere, and Parker Van Liere. Adored great grandfather to Quinn, Hudson and Sawyer. Dear brother to Charles (Sharon) Van Liere, of Union, Mo and brother-in-law to Robert (Joan) McDonald. Preceded in death by parents Edwin and Anna Van Liere, in-laws Robert and Helen McDonald, sister Virginia Ford and niece Julie Spaulding. Beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews.
George proudly served in the US Navy on the USS Forrestal aircraft carrier and was a member of the local American Legion. He worked in sales for many years and was a member of the American Welding Society. He was a devoted coach for many Little League baseball teams in McHenry, as well as past president of the McHenry Warriors Booster Club. For much of his adult life, George was an avid golfer. He was a member of the 'Bunker Bums' Golf League, and on December 4th, 1996, he completed a Hole in One at Chapel Hill Golf Course. He was a lifelong Chicago sports fan enjoying the time spent watching the games with his family and friends. George lived a full life, over many of his achievements the most important part of his life was his family. He will be deeply missed.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, December 19, 2024, from 10:30am to 12:30pm at Colonial Funeral Home, 591 Ridgeview Dr. McHenry IL. There will be eulogies shared at 12:00pm. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Legion. For more information, please contact Colonial Funeral Home.
