Our dad, George Webber, passed away on October 6th, 2025 - the day after celebrating his 93rd birthday. He and Mom shared life together for over 73 years, a remarkable journey built on faith, love, hard work, and devotion. There will be a small gravesite service at Holy Sepulcher 7845 Santiago Cyn Rd, Orange, CA 92869 on December 29th at 11:00 am for family and friends - a remembrance of his life and legacy.
Dad was born when life was hard. His father left when he was very young, and his mother struggled to provide for three children, Dad, Gene and Sherrie. For a time, she made the difficult decision to place him and his brother in a Catholic orphanage, where he learned early lessons about perseverance and independence in addition to his Catholic faith. In time, he was reunited with his mother, brother, and sister, and they built a life together.
He learned to work hard for everything he had. That work ethic carried him through his life - and eventually led him to the love of his life, our mom, Billie. Our mom's dad, "Happy," introduced them, and from that moment on, they were inseparable, and their lives became one incredible journey together.
Mom came from a large and loving family - her brother Bob, sisters Donnie and Thelma, and younger brother Leslie. After she and Dad married, her youngest brother Jim was born. Her best friend JoAnn later married her brother Bob, creating a lifelong bond between the two couples who became inseparable friends. Then Donnie married Charlie, and Thelma married Paul. Les added Sharon, Jim married Penny, and the expanded family developed deep and caring relationships. These people became my dad's friends and family.
Dad began his career as a mechanic for Douglas aircraft, and those skills served him well when he became a truck driver, buying a ten-wheel truck and working long hours to provide for his growing family. Mom was his partner in every way - keeping the home running, mowing the lawn, cooking, caring for us kids, and always welcoming him home with love.
Together, they raised three children: I was first born, and dad made me feel special; then Dennis was born and brought boundless energy and adventure; and in my senior year of high school, mom and dad came to Dennis and me and announced they were pregnant. What a surprise, but what a gift John was to our now complete family as part of God's plan. Dad was sometimes tough, but always out of love and a deep desire for his children to do their best, live purposefully, and get along.
Dad enjoyed running, but his greatest joy was time spent at the beach. He loved the sun! Camping trips to places like Doheny were among his favorite memories - searching for money washed up in the seaweed, spending time with the kids, cousins, and friends, and creating traditions that would last for generations. With Mom's siblings and their families, there were camping trips, fishing, hunting, and even the occasional rattlesnake-catching adventure - memories that make us smile and tremble to this day.
As we grew up and began families of our own, Dad and Mom found new joy in their grandchildren - Bob and our children, Louis, Aimee, Bobby, and Claire; Dennis and Mickey's children, Eric, Jenny, Joseph, and Melissa; and finally, John and Emily's family, Lauren and Ryan. Each grandchild held a special place in his heart, and he always knew how to make you feel cherished. Later came 14 great-grandchildren, who brought new laughter and light into their lives, even if he couldn't always remember all their names.
Dad eventually got his heart's desire when he retired from trucking, and enjoyed quieter days at home. He was sure he would die at 65, so he retired at 62 to have three good years and instead received 31. He and Mom stayed in the same house in which they'd built their life, sitting on the porch together under their beloved avocado tree, watching neighbors go by. Dad enjoyed reading and of course the daily nap in the warmth of the sun. They continued to play cards with family and friends, travel when they could, and always find joy in the simple moments. Though his knees slowed him down, he never stopped enjoying life - or reflecting on the many blessings God had given him.
Dad left us on October 6th, leaving behind a lifetime of love, hard work, and unforgettable memories. He was not perfect, but he was ours - steadfast, strong, loving, and proud of the family he created. May he be remembered in our hearts for how he touched our lives. May we carry forward the lessons he taught: to work hard, care deeply for those you love, enjoy the beauty God has created, and always take time to nap, laugh, and be with family.
Until we see you again, we love you, Dad - our father, grandpa, and great-grandpa. We will love and care for Mom until it's her time to rejoin you.
With love, Cameron (LaFont), Dennis, John and all our families
