George M. Werkheiser, 100, of Tannersville and formerly of Scotrun, passed away on Tuesday morning, February 17, 2026 at Mrs. Bush's Personal Care Home in Kunkletown where he was a resident since December. He was the husband of the late Ruth (Brown) Werkheiser with whom he shared 70 years of marriage at the time of her death on December 25, 2023.

Born on March 2, 1925 at home in Tannersville he was a son of the late Russell and Lottie (Frantz) Werkheiser and lived in Pocono Township for most of his life.

He was a graduate of Pocono Township High School and a World War II veteran having served in the United States Marine Corps from 1943 to 1946.

Following graduation from the Pennsylvania State College he was employed at Minneapolis-Honeywell in Philadelphia and then the Tobyhanna Army Depot from where he retired in 1987.

George was a lifetime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Tannersville and a member of the Pocono Jackson Townships Historical Society.

Surviving are a daughter, Beth Werkheiser of Tannersville; a son, Mark Werkheiser and wife Vivian of New Britain; many nieces and nephews; and many good friends who have breakfast together at First Place Cafe in Canadensis.

He was preceded in death by a son, Paul Louis Werkheiser (U.S. Air Force) in 1980; and his five siblings, Betty Snyder, Mary Wagner, Harry Werkheiser, Catherine "Kate" L. Rowe and Harold R. Werkheiser.

As per his wishes, there will be no services.

Cremation arrangements were entrusted to the William H. Clark Funeral Home in Stroudsburg.
