George Washington Whitley, age 43, of Acworth, Georgia, passed away on September 11, 2023. He was born on April 11, 1980, to Penny Brewton Whitley and George Whitley Sr.
George was a very personal, likeable, and intelligent individual. He had a passion for athletics and was a talented athlete during his high school and college days. He particularly enjoyed snow skiing, scuba diving, and water sports.
Upon completing high school, George joined the US Navy in 2000 as an Aviation Electronics Technician. He served on the USS George Washington Aircraft Carrier in the Persian Gulf during the 9/11 conflict. George's dedication and service to his country were commendable.
After his military service, George pursued his education with a VA Loan and enrolled in Coosa Valley Technical College in Rome, Georgia, where he aimed to obtain a degree in Ultrasound Technology. However, tragically, an accident left him paralyzed and unable to complete his education or work.
George was a member of Johnson Ferry Baptist Church in Marietta, Georgia, where he found solace and community. His faith was an important aspect of his life. He is survived by his half-brothers, George Whitley Jr., Michael Whitley, and half- sister Michelle Whitley. George was preceded in death by his mother, Penny Brewton Whitley, and his father, George Whitley Sr.
Private family services will be held to honor George's life. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the foundation for mental health in George's memory.
George Washington Whitley will be remembered for his service to his country, his determination to pursue his education, and his love for sports. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. May he rest in peace.
