Georgeanna Tawanah Orange

Georgeanna Tawanah Boynton Orange was born on June 13, 1950, in Washington, D.C. to the late Dorothy Edith Elnora Walker Butler and Arthur James Boynton. Tawanah was raised by her beloved mother who would also call her by the name "Wannie". She received her formal education from DC public school. Tawanah attended Smothers ES, Taft Junior HS, and was a proud graduate of McKinley Tech HS in 1969. After high school, Tawanah attended Federal City College (UDC) and worked with her mother at Washington National Airport. At the age of 28, she started her federal government career at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and later transferred to the General Services Administration (GSA). Determined to get her degree, Tawanah returned to college and earned her Associate of Arts and a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Strayer University in 2008. Tawanah maintained her position with the Federal Government for 46 dedicated years of service until her retirement in June 2024.

At an early age, Tawanah gave her life to the Lord and joined First Baptist Church of Deanwood, where she remained an active member up until her illness. Over the years, Tawanah shared her vocal talent with the Choraliers and Loyal Gospel Chorus. She was also a youth nurse and served as leader of the Victory/Pilgrim Fellowship Circle. Tawanah loved her church family!

At 21, Tawanah and Raymond Orange Jr. (divorced) were joined in holy matrimony on June 26, 1971. From their union was a daughter, Raynita R. Orange and a son Raymond J. Orange. While working at GSA, Tawanah met Jerry L. Timpson and they were married on July 1, 1989. From their union was a daughter, Jerwanah J. Timpson.

Tawanah enjoyed spending time with her children, traveling and visiting family. Tawanah was a big fan of R&B, Soul, and Gospel music. She loved putting on her best dress to go to a gospel concert or see a play at the Kennedy Center. She never ran out of a song to sing or a joke to tell because she loved to laugh just as much as she loved to sing. Tawanah loved talking to her neighbors as well as doing gardening around her home that made her proud. She enjoyed many hobbies that included collecting vinyl records, interior decorating, playing piano, making floral arrangements as well as binge watching Harry Potter and was a Dallas Cowboys fan. She loved being at home watching Westerns with her overly protective and loving Chihuahua, Max. Tawanah was strong, kind, generous to those in need and a devoted mother to her children whom she loved unconditionally.

After an 11 month battle with breast cancer, Tawanah Boynton Orange peacefully transitioned to her heavenly home on October 8th, 2025, at the age of 75. She is preceded in death by her parents, 2 aunts, (Geneva & Glenora), 2 uncles (Morton & Willie) and her lifelong play sister Valeda Ballenger-Cooley. To cherish her memory, Tawanah leaves her three children Jerwanah, Raymond and Raynita. Her fur grand pups, Max & Rocko and a host of cousins (Shaw & Walker Family), other relatives, friends, colleagues, and the First Baptist Church of Deanwood family.
