Georgia Baca Obituary

Georgia Mary Marino Baca

Georgia Mary Marino Baca, age 90, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2024, joining the Lord. Born on July 18, 1934, Georgia was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. She was the matriarch of the Baca family, known for her grace, elegance, and unwavering love for her family.

Georgia's life was filled with warmth and generosity. She had a talent for making delicious food, especially her famous red chile, and took great joy in feeding and entertaining loved ones. She also had a sweet tooth no matter at home or at a restaurant, and sometimes enjoyed dessert as her dinner. Her beautiful smile, love for dressing up, and independent spirit left a lasting impression on everyone she met. A woman of strong principles, Georgia always emphasized the importance of family unity and taking pride in one's appearance.

Georgia shared a deep love for travel and adventure with her late husband, Tony "Antonio" Baca. Together, they enjoyed dancing and exploring many destinations. Georgia's list of travels includes Las Vegas, Sausalito, Denver, Milwaukee, San Diego, Scottsdale, Virginia, New York, Hawaii, Italy, and more. Her adventurous spirit was evident in her younger years, whether skiing down slopes, riding mopeds in Red River, or taking scenic backroads (like her Tony) to avoid the freeways. She also enjoyed the occasional visit to a casino.

Family was Georgia's greatest love and she cherished every opportunity to bring everyone together for "little" parties. A hard worker, she never hesitated to tackle house projects on her own, often remarking with pride about her clean home, even if it left her sore the next day.

Georgia's work ethic extended beyond her home. As a teenager, she worked at Fito's restaurant, now known as the Barelas Coffee House. She later served as a telephone operator, before becoming the office manager at Zales Jewelers in the South Valley during the 1960s and 70s. For approximately 20 years, Georgia worked at Westland Development, formerly the Atrisco Land Grant, and even served on the board of directors for several years. She retired at age 72. After retirement, she volunteered for the literacy program to help young children learn how to read.

Georgia was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Tony Baca, who was known for his big heart, vibrant spirit, and ever-present smile. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Melquiades "Mel" and Mary Marino; her half-brother, Manuel Blea; her sister, Theresa Montoya-Gallegos; her brother, Melito Marino; and her son-in-law, Raymond Otero.

She is survived by her children, Christine Hoskins (Earl Hoskins), Monica Otero, and Anthony Baca (Pancha Baca); her grandchildren, Tenille, Thomas, Celina, Joseph, Marino, Jacob, and Marguerite; as well as her twelve great-grandchildren. Georgia also leaves behind many cherished family members.

Georgia, a giving, compassionate, patient, enduring, classy, elegant, funny, feisty, and strong-willed woman, left a lasting imprint on everyone she met and will be deeply missed. She is now at peace, reunited with her beloved Tony.

The family would like to express its sincerest gratitude for the loving care that was given to Georgia by the staff at Beehive and Life Spire Assisted Living and Nevaeh hospice care.

Services will be held on Thursday, September 5, 2024 at 10 a.m. at French's Mortuary, 9300 Golf Course Rd. NW, and will include a prayer service, memorials, tributes, and a reception. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. Please visit our online guestbook for Georgia at
