Gerald Arnoldussen Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Valley Funeral Home - Appleton on Jul. 1, 2023.
Precious in the eyes of the Lord is the death of his saints. Ps.116:15 Gerald "Gerry", "Arnie" Arnoldussen went home to the Lord on Sunday, 25 June 2023, as family members lovingly comforted and released him. He was born 5 January 1952 in Appleton, WI to Martin and Susanna Arnoldussen. He attended St Therese parish grade school and graduated from Appleton West. He was a starter on West's 1970 state championship basketball team, an accomplishment that always provided him great pleasure to reminisce about. He graduated from UW-Oshkosh with a business degree and, within a couple of years, got hired by the State of Wisconsin, where he was continually employed until retirement. He also officiated basketball for the local schools and did instructional work and officiating with children at the YMCA. Gerry married Peggy Domres on 28 May 1982, a union lasting 41 years until his death.
Gerry committed his life and heart to Jesus prior to his marriage, a life changing decision. He loved the Book of Proverbs especially, and modeled his life according to God's Word. He was a devoted, faithful husband and father, who took exceptional care of his family, loving them deeply, and living out his responsibilities with great diligence and integrity. He loved his children, delighted in them at every phase of their development, counseled them wisely, brought them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord, and held them tenderly. Gerry, along with Peg, was blessed with four living children: Dan (Ashley), Andy (Sheyla), Jon, and Abbie (Aaron). They've continued to be great blessings to their parents. Gerry loved fishing, biking, camping, rivers and streams, playing cards, coaching children's sports teams, money management. Early onset Alzheimer's disease, a genetic abnormality, probably triggered Gerry's early retirement. But he didn't have long to enjoy retirement due to progressive cognitive impairment, which eventually necessitated professional care. He spent his final almost three years in a care facility.
Gerry is survived by his wife, their children and spouses, and five beautiful grandchildren: Eve (6), Preston (5), Rayne (4), Isaiah (3), and Oakley (1). He's also survived by his siblings Eugene, Janice Larson, and Janine (Jim) Geenen. He is further survived by in-laws, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a miscarried child, his parents, a brother-in-law Don Larson. Gerry's family is most grateful for the excellent, attentive, and compassionate care he received at Brewster Village, and the equally outstanding care he received from St Croix Hospice. They all greatly eased, for Gerry and his family, the devastation of Alzheimer's.
