Gerald "Jerry" John Boron, aged 89, passed away on November 8, 2024, due to complications from pneumonia, surrounded by his family. Born on February 2, 1935, he had been a resident of Westland since 1957. Jerry dedicated 42 years of his life to working for the railroad before retiring in 1997.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley; his children Dennis, Kenneth (Linde), Steven, and Rick (Bonnie); and grandchildren Crystal, Sandra, Carson, Tiffany, Amber, Alexis, and Brooke. Jerry was also a great-grandfather to eight. He was preceded in death by his son, Douglas, and grandson, Kyle.
Jerry was known for his kindness, generosity, sharp wit, and solid character. A true handyman, he could build or fix anything and was always ready to lend a hand to those in need.
Jerry and Shirley shared a wonderful marriage of 67 years, rarely seen apart. Their love for each other was a beautiful example, teaching their children the importance of family and the value of hard work. Together with their children, they built a second home in Alba, Michigan, where they enjoyed spending as much time as possible.
A devoted fan of the Detroit Tigers, old western movies, and the occasional Whopper sandwich, Jerry enjoyed finding good deals and was known for randomly surprising his kids with surplus items such as strawberries, peanut butter, cookies, juice, or coffee.
We will forever remember Jerry and take comfort in knowing that he lived a fulfilling life, loved his family, and left a lasting impression on all who knew him. May he rest in peace, with his spirit continuing to guide us.
Memorial Visiting will be held for Jerry on Friday, November 22, 2024 from 3-8 pm at the John N. Santeiu & Son Funeral Home.
