Gerald Bortnick of Stoughton, formerly of Dorchester, passed away peacefully after a long battle with Alzheimer's, surrounded by his loving family, on November 1st, at the age of 80. He was the devoted son of the late Aaron and Esther Bortnick. Gerald leaves his loving wife of 56 years Janet (Karacek) Bortnick. He is the loving father of Amy Bortnick of Stoughton, Todd Bortnick of Brockton, and Melissa Bortnick of Bridgewater. Cherished grandfather of Gabrielle Bortnick. Dear brother of the late Morton Bortnick. Survived by his sister Roz Kofman.
Gerald was a member of IBEW electrical union. He was a hard worker and always provided for his family. He liked to work outside planting and mowing and all kinds of yardwork. He planted 5 trees that are beautiful over 50 years later. He was devoted to his children and granddaughter Gabrielle.
His funeral service will be held at 1:30 PM Monday, November 4th, 2024, at Schlossberg Family's Chapel on the Hill, 824 Washington Street in Canton, with the interment to follow at Sharon Memorial Park. A memorial observance will take place immediately following services at the home of Ruth Karacek and continuing Tuesday, Noon – 4PM.
Donations in Gerald's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association www.ALZ.org, 225 N. Michigan Ave., 17th Floor, Chicago, IL 60601.

I have such a fond memory of Jerry because he had wired all the electrical in my home in Mansfield many years ago (around '94, I think). It was our house warming gift at the time. It was probably one of the most thoughtful gifts anyone had ever given. Will always have love in my heart for one of the nicest people.
