Gerald "Jerry" Patrick Dalton, 70, passed away in the early morning Thursday, June 19, 2025 in San Angelo.
A celebration of life service will be at a later date. Friends will be able to share the many stories of Jerry's life. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.
Mr. Dalton was born February 2, 1955 in Detroit, Michigan, to Floyd Carroll and Lola Irene Dalton. As a small child the family moved to Arlington, where Jerry and his father owned and operated a gas station for many years. Jerry changed careers and became a guard at the prison in Dalhart and later in Palestine. While in Dalhart he met through a blind date Mary Bollig, whom he married on April 15, 2020. Jerry was a resident of San Angelo with his wife, two beloved dogs, Snoopy, Gus, and some cats.
Jerry was well known and loved by the San Angelo community as he and Mary became small animal rehabbers. He raised orphaned animals mainly opossums and squirrels to be able to release back into nature. Jerry's joy was found in watching them be released to find their new home. Jerry loved spending time outdoors metal detecting.
Jerry loved fishing, wood working, and fixing things when they broke, especially for other people. He loved God, and in his own words Jerry said, " I won the fight of my life with the best coaches - Jesus Christ, my wife Mary, and MD Anderson Cancer Center." He wrote his biography, a booklet about his battle with melanoma which he survived, remaining cancer free for 25 years. It's called Melanoma, Then Why Am I Still Here "a biography of the luckiest most unlucky guy." Jerry said, "along with humor,I used it to help myself and others affected by cancer. God is with you. Ask Him for spiritual healing." He and his wife attended a home church with pastor Les Smith.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Dalton of the home; a niece, Karen Spann of Venus, Texas; and three great nephews, Michael, Douglas, and Daniel.
