Husband, father, stepfather, Pawpaw, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, friend, and devoted follower of Christ, Gerald Wayne Doucet Sr. passed away peacefully on February 28, 2025. He was 75 years old.
Gerald was born in Beaumont, Texas to Weston P. Doucet and Flores J. Doucet (Hebert), on October 6, 1949. A proud native Texan and true Cajun, he delighted in crawfish etouffee, red beans and rice, gumbo, and Abita beer. True to his Texan roots, he could never resist BBQ or Tex-Mex.
While attending religious education classes at St. Edith Stein, Gerald Jr. and Katy hatched a plan to bring Jr.'s dad and Katy's mom together-sparking Gerald Sr's. and Kathy's happily ever after. On May 17, 2008, Gerald married Kathleen Foller (Nelson) and cherished her for nearly 17 years. He treasured blended family life, serving as a loving and devoted father to Jeremy and Gerald Jr. and a caring stepfather to Katy. Nothing brought a wider grin to his face than hearing his grandson Atlas call out, "Pawpaw, where are you?"
Gerald proudly served in the Texas Army National Guard before embarking on a career in the oil and gas industry. Before starting a family, he roamed the world working on instrumentation for oil rigs, both onshore and offshore. After years of demanding travel, he eagerly settled into office life, a new chapter in his career. He retired from Select Energy in November 2019 with a sense of joy, freeing him to indulge in his favorite hobbies.
Travel played a big role in Gerald's life, and he was determined to share that joy with his two sons. They were "on the road again," exploring together. Whether fishing in Arkansas, camping across the Lone Star State, seeing a mildly disappointing geyser in Yellowstone, or attending the ordination of Reverend Cardinal DiNardo in Rome, he hoped his children would discover the country as he had-not remain confined to their Houston neighborhood. Beyond camping and fishing, Gerald thrived outdoors. Sailing, hunting, boating, jet-skiing, scuba diving-if it was outside, he was all in! Even in retirement, he stayed connected to nature, volunteering at Stephen F. Austin State Park, where he and his "Gator Geezers" helped preserve its natural splendor.
Dit dit. Gerald surfed the airwaves for many years, a hobby he picked up as a young man alongside his father. With the callsign N5KT., he was an active member of the local ham radio club, KARS. Some of his deepest bonds were forged through KARS, and he relished chatting with buddies at weekly gatherings, enjoyed "field days," and talked radio with anyone who'd listen. One standout memory was working the radios aboard the Battleship Texas with Gerald Jr.
A born tinkerer, Gerald was hooked on the world of 3D printing. His clever mind and tech skills let him create toys for Atlas and containers in every possible shape, size, and color. If someone needed something, he'd dream up a unique design and bring it to life with his printer.
Gerald was a good and faithful servant and a devout Catholic. He served the St. Edith Stein community as a eucharistic minister, reader, catechist, sacristan, and acolyte. If a task needed doing at the church, he stepped up willingly. His service reflected his profound faith and commitment to God.
Gerald was preceded in death by his father, Weston P. Doucet; his mother, Flores J. Doucet; and his sons' mother, Virginia A. Doucet (Kahanek). He is survived by his wife, Kathy; his sons, Jeremy and Gerald Jr.; his stepdaughter, Katy; his precious grandson, Atlas; his sisters, Gwen, Jeanette, Patti, and Leila; his brothers, Donald and West; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Husband, father, stepfather, Pawpaw, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, friend, and devoted follower of Christ-Gerald was cherished by all whose lives he touched. His contagious belly laugh could light up a room, spreading joy to everyone nearby. With a knack for spinning stories and cracking jokes, he'd leave the whole crowd in tears of laughter. He will be deeply missed.
