Gerald Sablan Duenas

Journey of Life
Gerald Sablan Duenas was born on July 4, 1968, in Tamuning, Guam to Jesus Duenas and
the late Maria Sablan Duenas. He entered eternal rest and proceeded into paradise on Wednesday,
March 20, 2024.
In 1975, his parents, along with their five children, moved from Barrigada, Guam to San Ysidro,
California. Gerald graduated from Montgomery High School in 1986 and then from the San Diego Job
Corps as a Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning Technician.
In 1995, while fishing with his cousin, he met his life partner and wife, Virginia, where they
were happily married for years past. Through this bond their families were forged with their children
Christopher, Alexis, Karen, Janice Marie, and Robert "JR" (preceded in death).
In his adult years, Gerald lived in San Francisco, California; Alexandria, Virginia; and was a
long-time resident of East County, California. He ventured into various professions: a butcher,
maintenance technician in the disposable food packing industry, and had a commendable and
extensive 20-year career as a postal carrier for the United States Postal Service.
Gerald was known to everyone, especially his customers, for his smile, sensitivity, and
compassionate personality. He was a food enthusiast and an avid lover of sports who especially
enjoyed keeping in touch with and talking to his family, friends, and customers on his mail route;
casino games; playing chess; watching movies; and fishing. Gerald was a generous spirit with a kind,
virtuous soul. We will never forget his exceptional and beautiful life. His memory and love will be in
our hearts forever.
Mourning his loss, but celebrating his life and cherishing his memories are his loving wife
Virginia; his father Jesus Duenas; children Christopher Campbell (Viana), Alexis Duenas, Karen Licon
(Alan), Janice Marie Haley (Charles "Chuck"); grandchildren Darcy, Joseph, Jackson, Kayden,
Emma, Jasmine, Ethan, and Moana; siblings John Duenas (Nancy); Bobbie Wiggins (Craig Mario),
Anthony Duenas (Rachel), Donny Duenas (Marc); sister-in-law Karen Duenas, brother-in-law Celso
Tamares, sister-in-law Eliza Duenas (Alfrenger); cousins who were like siblings Thomas Sablan
(Dorothy), Christopher Cabrera (preceded in death), Lorene Duenas-Mills (Alex), Paul Crisostomo,
Kenneth Cruz; nephews and nieces Anthony, Jocelyn, Natalie, Nicholas, Dylan, Alleiza, Ellahmay,
Tylon, Sivan, Angela; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and life-long friends.
