Gerald A. Edwards, 78, of Tuscarawas, passed away unexpectedly in his home on Sunday, January 21, 2024.
Born in Dennison, Ohio, he was the son of the late Robert and Margaret (Alred) Edwards and a 1963 graduate of the former Gnadenhutten High School. Following high school, Gerald served two years in the United States Army stationed in Germany and France. He then began a long career with General Telephone where he worked as a lineman, retiring after over thirty years.
In his younger years, Gerald attended the Moravian Church in Gnadenhutten and enjoyed being outdoors fishing or hunting with his father. He was an avid golfer and after retiring, would golf daily with a special group of longtime friends. Additionally, he was a longtime member of the Tuscarawas V.F.W.
Gerald is survived by his wife, Diana L. (Gasser) Edwards, with whom he recently celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary on January 12, 2024. Also surviving are his daughter, Karen (Mark) Klapper of Perrysburg; his son, Scott Edwards of New Philadelphia; two grandsons, Isaac and Karson Klapper; his sister, Dana (Robb) Scalia of Sun City, Arizona; his mother-in-law, Wilma Gasser of New Philadelphia and numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Gerald was preceded in death by his brother, Roger Edwards.
In keeping with Gerald’s wishes, cremation care is to be provided by the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 25, 2024, from 5 to 7 PM in the funeral home.
The family requests that memorial contributions be directed to a charity of the donor’s choice.
