Gerald Max "Mack" Emerson Devon Faison was born in Sampson County, NC, to Matthew Lee "Bud Tack" Faison and Sadie Elizabeth "Muddy" Bowden on January 27, 1935, the youngest of eight children.
Sampson and Duplin counties are where Gerald spent his formative years, attended school and where he accepted JESUS CHRIST as his savior. Gerald lived his life as a GOD-fearing Christian, and as a young man, he joined the Greater Six Runs Missionary Baptist Church in Turkey, NC, where he maintained his membership and faithfully attended services until his health would no longer permit.
In 1963, Gerald followed the path of so many of his relatives who had migrated away from home and joined his siblings in New York City. In New York, Gerald Mack enjoyed a career as a Building Service Worker and was a proud member of the SEIU 32BJ Union. Gerald, a loyal employe, and dedicated worker, retired from SEIU 32BJ in 1980 and followed his dream. He left the big city and returned home to Faison, NC, to what he called "the old home place".
1980 was also a very special year for Gerald, as on July 16, 1980, he was joined in Holy Matrimony with his sweetheart Peggy Thompson, who he lovingly called "Pup". Peggy moved from up town out to the country with Gerald, and they set up home together, never really leaving each others side for 42 years until Gerald's health started to decline.
It was on April 4, 2023, that the LORD called Gerald, his good and faithful servant, home to be with him and to reunite him in Heaven with his parents Matthew and Sadie Faison, his sisters Johnie Lee, Helen and Agnes; his brothers Ray, Joe, Wesley and Rudolph; and nephew Moses, who all adored him.
Gerald is loved by so many and is affectionately called many different names by those he would encounter. Some know him as "Gerald Mack",while some refer to him as "Sam", "Dibbs", "Pipe", "Jerry" and "UG". No matter the name attached to Gerald, he was self-less and all knew him as a kind-hearted, suave, and debonair gentleman, one who truly depicted what a man should represent. Gerald always took care of his family and his community and would literally give away the shirt on his back if he thought someone needed it.
Gerald was a simple man who took great pride in his yard, his shoes were ALWAYS shined and his car was ALWAYS clean. But none of those things were more important than showing up for his family. Family to him went way past the "traditional" references. Cousins, no matter what degree, were still kin.
He was not just a man with material things. He passes on a legacy of values, memories, friendship, love, traditions, and respect.
Gerald will be missed but never forgotten and has left to cherish his memory the following: wife, Peggy Faison of the home, nephews, Reginald Max Johnson (Claudette) of Jamaica, NY; Rudolph OM "Marques" Faison Sr. of
Massapequa, NY; nieces, Patricia Faison-Ball ( Anthony) of Washington DC and Theresa Highsmith of
Alpharetta, GA. Gerald is also survived by a host of great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and friends including his beloved and devoted cousins W. Kenneth Vann "Roo Roo" and Peggy Gay, both of Faison, NC.
Home Going Service will take place 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at Greater Six Runs Missionary Baptist Church, 400 Six Runs Church Rd., Turkey, NC 28393. Burial will follow at Cobbs Cemetery located Faison, NC.
Viewing will be 12:00-2:00 pm prior to the service.
