Gerald Ford Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cox Funeral Homes - Delhi Chapel on May 24, 2025.
Funeral services for Mr. Gerald Perry Ford of Rowlett, TX will be at 11:00 AM, on the 30th May, 2025, in the chapel at Cox Funeral Home - Delhi, LA. Services will be officiated by Bro. Marshall Sevier, Delhi Methodist Church. Internment will follow at Crowville Masonic Cemetery in Crowville, LA under the direction of Cox Funeral Home in Delhi. The visitation will be from 9:30 – 11:00 at the funeral home.
Gerald (Jerry) was born July 13, 1939, in Crowville, LA and passed from this life on May 23, 2025 at IRIS Memory Care in Rowlett, TX at the age of 85.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Barbara Deppe Ford; his parents, Frank and Lucille Cox Ford; sister, Betty Jo Ford Pylant; brother, Johnny Mack Ford; and brothers in law, Gerald Pylant and Max Antony.
Jerry was a proud American. He was honored to have served in the US Army for 20 years, retiring in 1979. From Michigan to Texas, Germany to Vietnam, Jerry traveled the world extensively during his military service. While in Vietnam, he proudly fought for our country in the Tet Offensive of 1968. Upon retirement from active duty, Jerry continued to serve his country as a Civil Servant at Fort Bliss in El Paso, TX, eventually retiring from the Federal Aviation Administration in 1994. Even as a world traveler, his ongoing desire was to return home to Northeast Louisiana to be near family and friends. Jerry and his wife Barbara settled in Delhi where he resided for the next 28 years.
While retired, Jerry tried his hand at a variety of different hobbies, to include; fishing, bicycle-riding and walking. He eventually settled on riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle from one end of the country to the other. His motorcycle travels took him from Key West, Florida to Sturgis, South Dakota, and from Washington, DC to the Pacific Coast Highway in California. Always on the go, he would rarely spend more than a day or two at any of these destinations. A family favorite story is how on a trip from Delhi, LA to Big Bend National park in Texas, he stayed long enough to grab a brochure at the park visitors center then drove back home to Delhi.
Jerry also was an active member of the Masonic and Shriner fraternity where he volunteered on several occasions to be a driver for children who needed transportation to and from the Shriners Burn Centers for Children.
Jerry eventually decided to move back to Texas in November of 2022, so that he could be closer to his son Frank and his family. These last couple of years meant a lot to him as he was able to further develop and foster a deeper relationship with his son, daughter-in-law and his two grand-daughters.
Survivors include his son, Frank Gerald Ford and wife Rhys; grandchildren, Karis Elizabeth Ford and Caitlyn Elise Ford; siblings Annette Antony, Allen Ford and wife Wendy. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Pallbearers will be David Pylant, Caleb Pylant, Todd Casiday, Jake Casiday, Michael Cox, and Whit Drain
Honorary Pallbearers will be John Dupree and Michael Wilson.
Gerald will have Military Honors and Masonic Honors conducted at the cemetery.
