FREDDIE " BIRDMAN" CARTER

January 17, 2026

EVEN THOUGH HE TIME WITH US AT THE MADISON PARISH COUNCIL ON AGING WAS NOT VERY LONG. THE IMPACK HE LEAVE WITH US WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN.
IT DIDN'T TAKE LONG FOR HIM TO FIX INTO OUR LITTLE GROUP. HE WAS FUNNY OUT SPOKEN BUT KIND AND ENJOYABLE TO BE AROUND. HE ADOPTED ALL OF US. AFFECTIONALLY KNOW AS "POP". TO ALL OF US, NO MATTER THE AGE OF THE PEOPLE WHO GREETED HIM.
WHEN HE FIRST STARTING COMING TO THE COUNCIL, HE WAS KIND OF QUIET. BUT THAT DIDN'T TAKE LONG AS HE GOT COMFORTABLE AND OPENED UP TO EVERYONE.
HE WOULD SET QUIETLY PLAYING DOMINO ON HIS PHONE. WE WERE FINALLY ABLE TO GET TO PLAY WITH US. AND BOY DID HE GET INVOLVED. IT GOT TO THE POINT HE WOULDN'T WAIT FOR THE BUS TO PICK HIM UP. HIS LAST DAYS AT THE CENTER. "POP" WOULD GET A RIDE THERE. HE WOULD ALREADY BE THERE SITTING AT THE TABLE READY TO PLAY.
WE GOT VERY CLOSE (BIRDMAN") THESE LAST FEW MONTHS. EVEN THOUGH HIS TIME WAS LIMITED AT THE CENTER, WE TALKED JUST ABOUT EVERY DAY AT THE END. HE BROUGHT A LOT OF LAUGHTER AND JOY TO US. I KNOW THE WORLD AND PEOPLE HE HAS BEEN AROUND HIS "90" YEARS CAN STILL FEEL HIS PRESENT. THE WORLD WOULD BE A BETTER PLACE IF EVERY ONE HAD A HEART AND SOUL LIKE MR MAURICE "MOE, POP" DAVID. I KNOW I AM A BETTER PERSON FOR KNOWING YOU, AND I WILL NEVER FORGET YOU Y "FRIEND". KEEP THE DOMINO TABLE READY. ( FREDDIE AND INGRID CARTER)
GOD BE BLESSING ALL OF US
