A memorial service is incomplete at this time.

Robert "Bobby" Dhu Thompson, Sr., passed away on January 23, 2026, following a brief illness. He was 86 years old.

Bobby was born on May 13, 1939, in Delhi, Louisiana, to Clyde Coleman Thompson, Jr. and Frances Nolan Thompson.

He graduated from Delhi High School, where he played football, baseball, and basketball and was affectionately known by friends and teammates as "Snake." He received a scholarship to play baseball at Louisiana Tech University, where he also played basketball. Later he was recruited by Coach Fant to join the basketball team at the former Northeast Louisiana University, now the University of Louisiana at Monroe, where he continued playing basketball as well as baseball and ultimately graduated.

A talented artist, Bobby spent his professional career teaching art at the former Louisiana Training Institute in Monroe, Louisiana. Outside of work, Bobby was an avid sports fan. He especially loved watching the ULM Warhawks and was a devoted supporter of the New Orleans Saints, rarely missing a game and always ready to cheer them on.

He is survived by his sons, Robert "Bob" Dhu Thompson, Jr. (Cindy) of Monroe, Louisiana, and Jason Colby Thompson (Laura) of Cornelius, North Carolina; his grandchildren, Aaron Thompson (Krystle), Brennan Thompson (Cassidy), Jordan Thompson, Elaine "Lainey" Thompson, and Colby Thompson; his great-grandchildren, Patrick Thompson, Emma Thompson, and Liam Thompson. He is also survived by his siblings, Francis Coleman Thompson (Marilyn), Michael Lanier Thompson (Deborah), and Priscilla Jo Linder.

He also leaves behind dear friends Hannah Johnson and Jerry Kaufman, whose friendship meant so much to him.

Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde Coleman Thompson, Jr. and Frances Nolan Thompson; his brothers, Clyde Nolan Thompson and Dr. William David Thompson; and his dear friend, Carole Susan Vinson.

He will be remembered for his love of family, his lifelong enjoyment of sports, and the many relationships he built over a lifetime.
