Charles Parker, aged 79, died peacefully at his home on Poverty Point Reservoir near Delhi, Louisiana on Tuesday morning, October 14, 2025. His wife, Kathleen, his daughter, Melanie, his pastor, Bro. Bernard Duchesne, as well as his hospice nurse, Monica Odom, were at his bedside.
Charles was born to the union of Julian and Aline Parker in Winnsboro on July 18, 1946. The majority of his life was spent in Delhi. He attended and graduated from Delhi High School and excelled as a member of the Delhi Bears football team. He made many lasting friendships with his teammates. He attended college at NLSC for a short time and later returned when it was NLU. He enjoyed organizing the class reunions for the DHS class of 1964 and kept in touch with his classmates down through the years. Charles was an adventurous person and often lived life a little on the edge to the consternation of his family. He and Kathleen rode Gold Wing motorcycles for 30 years, traveling to many different states and places of interest. He was a member for many years of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association. One of the highlights of the Chapter D year was the annual crawfish boil hosted and cooked expertly by Charles. As he advanced in age and health began to decline, they sold the bike and be RV'ing, but he still retained the friendship that he made with his Gold Wing friends. The RV experience opened up a whole new world in the Great Smokey Mountains of Western North Carolina. It was there that they found their second home in Maggie Valley. They loved spending the summer at the same RV resort where lasting friendships were formed and are still maintained. As Charles's health continued to decline, they were happy to enjoy their home on the lake. Charles was a respected employee at Richardson Medical Center in Rayville as the Physical Plant Director for 42 years. He also was a heating and air conditioner tech. He had a passion for World War II history and especially loved and respected the old veterans. One of the greatest honors he had was to serve as a guardian for three of those veterans as they were flown to Washington D.C. on the Honor Guard Flight. He was an avid reader of WW II battles, so in 2012, he was privileged to take the Band of Brothers Tour to follow the Normandy invasion of Europe. For many years, he joined a large group of men who made a yearly trek to Colorado to hunt mule deer. It was the camaraderie among the men as much as the hunt that that took him there for 17 years. However, his trophy hangs proudly in his home. He was a member in good standing of the Delhi Masonic Lodge #120 having recently received his 50-year pin. Charles was a Christian, having professed Christ as his Savior. He was a devoted member of Dunn Baptist Church where he was humbled to serve as a deacon. He enjoyed the Homecomings and any occasion when potluck was being served. He taught an older ladies Sunday School class for several years and couldn't understand why they would want him He acted as Santa Claus for the children's Christmas program for many years. He was looking forward to the building program starting in the near future.
Charles is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Kathleen (Mama); his daughter, Melanie Hollier and husband, Troy; his brother, Lonnie Parker and his family; sister, Lucille Rhodes and her family; the children of his deceased brother, and many cousins, and friends; his four-legged companion, Sir Winston Churchill Parker.
