Gerald Garza Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Carnes Brothers Funeral Home on Feb. 11, 2023.
GALVESTON, TX – Gerald Alan (Putter) Garza was brought out of suffering and into the eternal arms of Jesus Christ on Wednesday February 8, 2023. He was born in Galveston, Texas on June 30, 1960 to parents Charlie and Winnie Faye Garza. Gerald was affectionately nicknamed "Putter" by his father as a child, which stuck with him all of his life. He called Galveston Island home and wouldn't have it any other way. The seventh of eight children, he grew up playing sports, chase, marbles and tops with his siblings and neighborhood friends. He attended Ball High School, where he met Calva Garza and would spend 30 years with her.
Gerald worked as a derrickman for Stamper Operating Company, Inc. from 1979-1995. He also spent much of his time climbing trees. This is where he gained his love of arboriculture, which he spent most of his adult life practicing and building plenty of clientele in his landscaping endeavor, following his time in the oil field.
In his early adult life, he loved to perfect his Michael Jackson-esque dance moves, was an extremely gifted artist, enjoyed writing poetry, and studying Jeet Kune Do. He also had an impeccable sense of humor and would give you his last nickel if you needed it. This is how his family will always choose to remember him.
Gerald is survived by his daughter, Ashley Schaper (David), brother; Alex Flores (Esther), Calva Garza, two grandchildren; Ryan and Aubrey, and numerous nieces, nephews, and island friends. He was loved by so many and will truly be missed.
Gerald's daughter would like to extend her gratitude and appreciation to Alex and Esther Flores, as well as the staff of Winchester Nursing Home in Alvin, TX and Carnes Brothers Funeral Home in Galveston, TX.
Services are pending at this time.
