Gerald "Allen" Hammersmith, 64, of Gorham, Kansas, died on Sunday, November 3, 2024, at his home in Gorham, Kansas.
Allen was born on April 18, 1960, in Russell, Kansas, the son of Gerald Dean and Mildred Marie (Crockett) Hammersmith. He grew up in Gorham, Kansas, and graduated from Gorham High School in the class of 1978. He met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Lou Ann Schulte on February 24, 1979, in Walker, Kansas. From this union Allen and Lou Ann were blessed with two children, Jared and Nicole. He worked in the Oil Field Industry for many years. He was a longtime member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Walker, Kansas. He enjoyed woodworking, cooking, baking and spending time with his grandchildren. He was previously a member of the Gorham Fire Department.
Surviving family includes his wife Lou Ann of the home; son Jared Hammersmith and wife J.J. of Gorham, Kansas; daughter Nicole Hartman and husband Mitch of Hays, Kansas; mother, Mildred Hammersmith of Victoria, Kansas; sisters Peggy Wohler of Victoria, Kansas and Donna Weigel of Gorham, Kansas; six grandchildren Seth, Ava and Sage Schwien and Katelyn Hartman, Jaden and Jalynn Hammersmith.
He was preceded in death by his father and brother, Robert Hammersmith.
A Celebration of the funeral mass of Allen's life will be held at 10 A.M. on Thursday, November 7, 2024, at The Basilica of St. Fidelis in Victoria, Kansas. Visitation will be from 9 A.M. to 4 P.M. on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell, Kansas. A vigil and rosary will be held at 7 P.M. on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at The Basilica of St. Fidelis in Victoria, Kansas. Burial will follow at St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery in Walker, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be given to the Dreiling-Schmidt Cancer Center of Hays, Kansas or St. Ann's Catholic Church and can be sent in care of the mortuary. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
