Gerald "Gerry" Hickey

Gerald "Gerry" B. Hickey, 75, of Rockford, passed away surrounded by his family on April 13, 2023. He was born on May 19, 1947, in DeKalb, IL, the son of Bernard and Mary (Hughes) Hickey. He graduated from DeKalb High School, class of 1965. He worked for ComEd for over 33 years. Gerry married Helen Murphy on December 3, 2003.
Gerry was proud of his Irish descent and Catholic Faith. He was an avid Green Bay Packer fan and had a love for farming and a well manicured lawn. He enjoyed his dogs Katie and Holly. He spent many summers with his children at Lake Jordan in Wisconsin.
Gerry is survived by those who loved him most, wife, Helen; children, Angie (Steve) Torre, Craig Hickey, and Julie (Matt) Auestad; stepchildren, Jackie (Sean) Hamilton, Joey (fiancé, Jamie Garland) Schap, and Kristen Finnicum; grandchildren, Olivia, McKinley, Amelia, Natalie (fiancé, Quay Taber), Emily, Courtney (Drew), Lauren, Madison, Kendall, and Chad; great grandchildren, Amari, Isabelle, and Grayson; siblings, Kay (Lex), Kevin (Donna), Terry, Kelly (Lynne) and Jim (Carrie); and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by his parents.
The family wants to give special thanks to Dr. Korkmaz and the staff at OSF Cancer Center.
A Celebration of Life will be on Sunday, April 23, 2023, from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm, at the Sycamore VFW Post 5768, 121 S. California Street Sycamore, IL.
