James Campobello

James Campobello, 96, passed away on Friday, March 13, 2026. Born July 2, 1929, in Rockford, the son of Riccardo and Virginia (Fiorentino) Campobello. Graduate of West High School, Class of 1947 and University of Illinois with a Bachelor's Degree in Floriculture in 1951. Served in the Army during the Korean War. James married Patricia L. Johnson on March 5, 1955. She predeceased him on September 19, 2002. He worked at Sundstrand before retiring in 1991. James was a member of Bethesda Covenant Church where he was a Diaconate, trustee, Chairman of the Flower Committee and Tape Ministry. He was also past President of Men's Garden Club of Rockford, Moose Club, Northern Illinois Botanical Society, and volunteered at Klehm Arboretum.

Survived by his daughters, Rev. Catherine Campobello, Constance (Daniel) Thompson, Laura (John) Sutkay, and Diane (Gary) Ringler; grandchildren, Christina Tolson, Angela Barrett, Lisa Potts, Anna Jones, and Jake Upshaw; great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Also predeceased by his parents; and nine siblings.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. on Monday, March 23, 2026 at Fred C. Olson Chapel, 1001 Second Ave., Rockford. Private burial in Arlington Memorial Park.
