Gerald "Red" Gordon Hoppes passed away on September 26, 2025 with his family by his side at the age of 94. He was born on February 4, 1931 in Connersville, IN and is the son of the late Walter M. and Aubrey Hoppes.

Gerald was a devoted husband to Christene Hoppes who he married on August 1, 1970 in Harrison, Ohio. They shared nearly 52 years of marriage together before she passed away on March 4, 2022. Gerald graduated in 1950 from Alquina High School. Gerald was not a stranger to hard work. He was employed at Trans Ash for 23 years as a heavy equipment operator as well as the Union County Highway Garage and Whitewater State Park. In addition to his regular full time job, he owned and operated Hoppes Insulation for more than 20 years with his wife and children by his side.

Gerald, also known as Uncle Red, will be remembered for his hard work and dedication to his family and friends. He enjoyed playing horseshoes, Euchre, farming, coon hunting, and watching IU basketball. Gerald was known for having a sweet tooth, especially sweets given to him by his family.

Gerald is survived by his daughters, Bev Jones and Becky (Kevin Sizemore) Hoppes; son, Rodney (Lisa) Hoppes; step-son, Larry (Judy) Baker; step-daughters, Patricia Benson, Sheila Childers, Beverly Hollowell, Alma Baker, Tina Redding, Kim (Ron Rose) Eyler; and sister, Shirley (Maurice) Powell; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, Gerald was preceded in death by a brother, Lowell Hoppes; sisters, Marjorie (Robert) Stevens and Carmilea "Bo" (Jerry) Antrim.

Visitation for Gerald will be held on October 1, 2025 from 11:00am until 1:00pm at Urban Winkler Liberty Funeral Home, 310 N. Main St. Liberty, IN 47353. The funeral service will immediately follow at 1:00pm at the funeral home. Gerald will be laid to rest in Westpoint Cemetery in Liberty, IN next to his beloved wife, Christene.
