GAS CITY, IN – Glen E. Hoppes, 101, entered peace and rest from Marion Health in Marion on Thursday, March 13, 2025, following a brief illness.
Glen was born on August 24, 1923, in Gas City to Marvin and Mary (Love) Hoppes. He graduated from Summitville High School-Class of 1941. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1944. Glen was a member of the Summitville ACs where he played and coached softball for several years. He retired from Delco-Remy in 1979 after 38 years of employment. Glen was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Summitville. After softball, Glen became extremely active in competitive horseshoe pitching. He was an active member of the National Horseshoe Pitching Association. Twice, Glen won the world horseshoe pitching competition in his division. Since 1978, Glen and Mary enjoyed living in Florida, where he pitched horseshoes day and night.

2 Sons-Steve (Patty) Hoppes of Kokomo, Jeff (Kathy) Hoppes of Albany, Georgia
4 Grandchildren-Stephanie (Mike) Linder, Elizabeth (Chase) Downey, Aaron Hoppes and Hillary (James) LaFlam
4 Great-Grandchildren-Colton LaFlam, Austyn LaFLam, Blaire Downey and Kennedy Downey
Several nieces and nephews
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 70 years-Mary Elsworth Hoppes in 2016, brothers-Robert Hoppes and Jack Hoppes, Sisters-Dorothy Corn, Donna (Richard) Maynard and Carolyn Hensley
Friends and family are invited to a graveside service in Glen's honor at 1 pm on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, in the Vinson Memorial Cemetery at Summitville. Pastor Brian Ball will officiate. Military honors will be accorded by the United States Army and the Elwood VFW #5782 Honors Team.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the First Baptist Church, 700 East Mill Street, Summitville, IN 46070.
