Gerald M. "Jerry" Hunter, 80, of Oglesby, passed away on Monday, December 22, 2025, at his home.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, December 30, 2025 at the Prey-Mueller Funeral Home, Oglesby with Pastor Bill Jacobsen of the Oglesby Union Church officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, LaSalle. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 AM Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Hunter was born on July 9, 1945, in Ottawa, to Robert Douglas and Frances Marie (Frank) Hunter. Jerry was an Eagle Scout. He was a graduate of La Salle-Peru Township High School and attended LPO Junior College. He graduated from the University of California at Irvine, and IIT Chicago Kent College of Law. Mr. Hunter was an attorney for 53 years. He was the former attorney for the City of Oglesby, the Village of Ladd, and the Ladd and Dalzell Fire Departments. He was a member of the Oglesby Union Church, a past member of the American Bar Association, the Illinois Bar Association, and the La Salle County Bar Association.
Mr. Hunter married Karen Sue Smith in 1964 in Newport Beach, CA. They were happily married for 61 years and enjoyed their travels throughout the world and wintering on the island of St. Maarten in the Caribbean. Mrs. Hunter survives him in Oglesby. Also surviving is his brother, Dan Hunter of Huntington Beach, CA, and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Hunter was preceded in death by his father, Robert Douglas Hunter in 1998 and most recently his mother, Frances Marie Hunter, on December 17, 2025.
