Gerald J. “Jerry” Ryan passed away at the age of 101 at Saint Francis Nursing Center on Wednesday, April 9, 2025. He was born on September 21,1923 to Frederick and Albertina (Carney) Ryan in Worcester, MA and became a resident of Shrewsbury in1943 where he remained for 81 years.
He is survived by his children Geraldine Bergeron and husband Arthur of Worcester and Patricia Maher of Auburn. He is also survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is predeceased by his wife Yolanda (Balsamo) and his siblings Frederick, James, Harold, Eileen (Ryan), Isabelle (Shustak), Mary (Letourneau) and Alice (Martone). He is also predeceased by his granddaughter Christine Leblanc and son in law Kevin Maher.
Jerry served in the US Navy aboard the minesweeper USS Pheasant where they swept a path one hour ahead of the invasion of Normandy at Omaha Beach on D-Day 1944. He traveled to many countries including Italy, France, Cuba, England and Africa. Upon discharge he became a driver for the Worcester Bus Company and then Normand’s City Truck where he built a career as a driver and then management. He became an owner of E & B Transportation until his retirement.
Jerry enjoyed golfing, boating and entertaining at his homes in Shrewsbury and Dennis, Ma and growing vegetables in his garden. He was a member of St. Anne’s Church and the Knights of Columbus in Shrewsbury.

Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel are assisting with the arrangements. The funeral service will be private.
