Gerald Johnson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Chapels - Missouri on Oct. 23, 2024.
Gerald Johnson, passed away on October 9, 2024.
Gerald Benard Johnson was born on November 2, 2024, to Moinstra and Rhoda Wright Johnson. He was raised in Kansas City, Missouri, with his parents and ten siblings.
As a young boy, Gerald was affectionately nicknamed "Gerald boy" by his parents and siblings, a name that carried warmth and familiarity throughout his life. He received his formal education in the Kansas City, Missouri School District, attending Greenwood Elementary, Ladd Elementary, Central Junior High School, and Central High School. He received his early Christian training at Wright Memorial Church of God in Christ, under the leadership of his great-uncle Elder J.W. Wright.
After high school, Gerald proudly served in the United States Maine Corpe. A man of faith and intellect, he shared ideas and learned from others. From childhood, he was known for his sharp sense of humor: Gerald could make those around him laugh with his quick wit, brightening any room he entered. He was a loving son, brother, and uncle. He was a cherished friend to many.
Gerald deep love for the art, writing music, and acting brought him joy throughout his life. While in high school, one of his poems was selected for publication, a proud achievement that showcased his talent for expression. An avid reader, he spent countless hours in books, exploring new ideas and stories. He enjoyed attending Holy Deliverance Church of God in Christ with his family, where he often played his acoustic guitar during services. His greatest joy, however, was spending time with his family.
He is survived by his siblings, Patricia Elaine Johnson; John Richard Johnson (Loretta); Danna Andre Johnson; Vicki Johnson (sister-in-law); Jacqueline Estella Johnson bowls (Bruce); Seretta Denise Johnson; Jeffrey Allan Johnson; Dr. Timothy Edward Johnson; and Lyndon Bryan Johnson; as well as a host of nieces; nephews; and cousins. Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, Moinstra and Rhoda Johnson; and two brothers, Ronald Wayne Johnson; and Michael Darnell Johnson.
Gerald, passed away on October 9, 2024, at the age of 67. Days before his passing, Gerald spoke of God's forgiveness and reflected on the day when he was saved and received the baptism of the Holy Ghost. He leaves behind a legacy of faith and God's redemption.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. at Watkins Heritage Chapel 4000 Emanuel Cleaver II Blvd. KCMO 64130. Interment: Leavenworth National Cemetery Monday, October 28, 2024, at 9:00 A.M. Visitation: 10-11:00 A.M. at the Chapel. Arrangements entrusted to Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Chapels.
