Terry Jester Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Pedrick Funeral Home - Keosauqua on Jan. 3, 2026.
Terry Denis Jester Sr., 69, of Milton, passed away peacefully at home on January 2, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of service, dedication, and love for family and community. Born on October 25, 1956, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Harold L. Jester and Shirley Lewis Jester, Terry spent his early years in Kansas City before moving to Sibley, Missouri, where he graduated from Fort Osage High School in 1975.

In 1982, Terry answered the call to serve his country, joining the United States Navy. He was part of the first commissioned crew and an original plank owner of the USS Florida, an Ohio Class nuclear submarine, and finishing his service serving aboard the USS Michigan, also an Ohio Class nuclear submarine, where he retired as a Machinist Mate First Class in 1998. His commitment to service continued in his professional life, working at Riverside Plastics and retiring after 26 years as a Maintenance Supervisor. Terry was known for his skill in wood working, his enjoyment of mowing, and his knack for fixing things-qualities that reflected his practical nature and willingness to help others.

Terry was involved in his community. He was a member of Russell-Strait Post No. 483 American Legion in Milton, served on the Fox Valley and Van Buren School Boards for 17 years, and participated in the Milton and Blue Springs, MO Lions Clubs. His faith was important to him, as a current member of the Milton Christian Church.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Janice; his son, Terry Jester Jr. of Milton; his daughter, Lori Damschen (Jeff) of Kingston, WA; his brother, Dale Jester (Debra) of Overland Park, KS; his sister, Delores Rooney of Texas; and four cherished grandchildren: Kenneth, Maggie, Jonathan, and Peter Damschen. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Michael Rooney.

Visitation will be held at Cranston Family Funeral Home in Keosauqua on Thursday, January 8, 2026, with family present from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Funeral services will take place at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 9, 2026, at the funeral home, officiated by Kevin Mote and Rev. Bill Shewmaker. Burial with military honors will follow at 2:00 PM in the Keokuk National Cemetery with military honors. Gifts to a memorial to be designated later by the family in Terry's honor may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 908 North Main Street, Milton, IA 52570.
