Barbara Lansingh Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Affordable Burial & Cremation Service - Austin Area on Jan. 30, 2026.
Barbara Gano Lansingh, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on January 17, 2026, in Pflugerville, Texas. She was born on August 16, 1941, in Snowflake, Arizona, to Ford I. Gano and Nellie Gano, née Waddington. She was the second of four daughters-Joanne, Darlene, and Kathy-and a half-sister to Cherie.

Barbara grew up primarily in Keosauqua, Iowa, where she attended high school before continuing her education at Brigham Young University. At BYU, she majored in Child Development and Family Relations, a field that reflected the lifelong care, patience, and devotion she showed to children and families. As a young woman, she also served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Northern States Mission (Chicago).

On December 28, 1965, she married Robert "Bob" Lansingh in Oakland, California, and they were sealed in the Oakland Temple. Together, they built a loving family and shared many adventures over the course of their marriage, which lasted until Bob's passing in 2020.

Barbara was an active and devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout her life, where she frequently served as a Primary teacher and Primary chorister. She expressed her faith and love for others in quiet, personal ways, including painting handmade birthday cards each month for the sisters in her ward.

She worked as an administrative assistant for Tektronix and later for Xerox, and was known for her reliability, kindness, and quiet competence in every role she held.

Creativity and thoughtful focus were constant threads throughout her life. She enjoyed painting watercolors, sewing, quilting potholders, and lovingly making baby blankets for each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She spent many hours engaged in family history work, carefully preserving connections across generations. In quieter moments, she enjoyed puzzles, games, game shows, Perry Mason, and musicals. She played the flute in her high school marching band and was a loyal BYU Cougars football and basketball fan.

Barbara loved the outdoors and treasured time spent camping with her family. She was famous for cooking up enough pancakes to "feed an army," which her growing family certainly was. She also enjoyed traveling, especially on cruises that took her to destinations around the world.

Barbara is survived by her daughters, Anne (Edward Riener), Elizabeth (Ted Leblow), and Cathy (Tristen Fielding); her 12 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, 2 step great-grandchildren, her 3 sisters and her half sister.

She leaves behind a legacy of faith, service, creativity, gentleness, and deep devotion to her family.

I knew Barb while working at Tektronix/Xerox and she was an incredible friend. I have one of her watercolor paintings (framed) and treasure it. Her spirit is missed and I wish there were more just like her on this world. I love you Barb.
