Gerald "Jerry" E. Jones
November 11, 1946 – December 17, 2025
Gerald "Jerry" E. Jones, 79, of
Lebanon, Oregon, passed away peacefully on December 17, 2025, after a courageous battle with illnesses related to his military service. Born on November 11, 1946, in
Richmond, California, Jerry grew up in Eagle River, Alaska, where his love for the outdoors and adventurous spirit first began to bloom.
In October 1965, Jerry proudly joined the U.S. Navy Seabees, serving until December 1969. He fought bravely in the Vietnam War and became a journeyman electrician-a skill that would shape his life. During this time, Jerry met Kathy, the love of his life. Together, they built a beautiful life and celebrated 58 years of marriage, raising two daughters who were his greatest joy.
After his military service, Jerry's skills as a journeyman electrician led him to a career in various industries including rare metals at Zirtech, Wah Chang and Oremet in
Albany, OR for 14 years. Next he worked in the oilfield industry, bringing him back to Alaska with his family. He worked for ARCO Alaska for 15 years on the North Slope before retiring early. But retirement didn't mean slowing down-Jerry and Kathy embraced new adventures, moving back to Oregon and spending countless days RV'ing, exploring, and enjoying life together.
Jerry loved the outdoors and lived life with a full heart. Hunting, fishing, 4-wheeling, and camping with friends and family were among his happiest moments. He was always ready to lend a hand, share a laugh, or simply listen when someone needed a friend. Jerry had a curious mind and loved learning and sharing knowledge. He built games, played with joy, and never cared who won-because for him, it was always about connection and fun. His kindness, generosity, and warm spirit touched everyone who knew him.
Jerry is survived by his beloved wife, Kathy Jones; his daughters, Dawn Jones Bridges and Tara Jones Blake; and their husbands, Rusty Bridges and Scott Blake. He was a proud grandfather to Dylan Blake, Matthew Blake, Luke Bridges, Hunter Blake, Rachel Bridges Collman, and Brian Bridges, and a cherished great-grandfather to Brayden Carlson, Blake Carlson, and Hannah Collman. His family was his greatest pride and joy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Dora Jones, and his brother, Ralph Dennis Jones. Jerry's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Throughout his post war years, Jerry suffered a growing list of Agent Orange related illnesses, surgeries and lengthy difficult recoveries. And yet, somehow, he usually managed to bear most of his pains with a smile. Jerry, the man he was, will be sorely missed and lovingly remembered. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Oregon Veteran's Home Lebanon (Edward C. Allworth Veteran's Home) for their compassion and care of Jerry toward the end of his journey.
As much as Jerry cared about others, he will be deeply missed, and we take comfort knowing he is at peace.
A celebration of Jerry's life will be held at a later date in
Lebanon, Oregon. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to a
charity of your choice in his honor.
