Gerald Kavanaugh Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Yalesville Funeral Home on Nov. 29, 2025.
Gerald T. "Gerry" Kavanaugh, age 82, of Yalesville passed away peacefully at home, with his family by his side on November 27, 2025. For 60 years, he was the loving husband of Charlotte Clark Kavanaugh. Gerry was born in Meriden, CT, the son of the late Thomas and Yvonne L'Ecuyer Kavanaugh.
He was a proud U.S. Army veteran. During his time of service, Gerry was stationed at the Pentagon as an Intelligence Specialist, working with the U.S. Department of Defense. Upon completing his service, he earned both an M.A. and an M.S. from Southern Connecticut State University. His professional career led him to West Haven High School, where he taught English and History until his retirement in 1999. He also served for many years as an adjunct professor at his alma mater.
Gerry loved to listen to classical music and was an avid fan of Opera. He taught us all about the stars in the sky, could recite Shakespeare and had an amazing recall of historical events. He loved feeding the birds and watching his grandchildren do anything. He was a gentle man with a heart of gold and will be dearly missed by everyone who crossed his path
In addition to his wife, he is also survived by his son Colin Kavanaugh and his wife Deirdre McDonald Kavanaugh, his grandchildren, Molly and Seamus Kavanaugh, his brother Timothy Kavanaugh and his wife Mary Alice, his sister Kathleen Allard and her husband Robert, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. The family would like to thank the staff of Hartford HealthCare Home Hospice, especially Debbie, Eileen, C.J., Jeff and Anne for all the care and compassion during this difficult time.
Gerald was also predeceased by his sisters, Dianne Davis and Jacqueline Kavanaugh.
Gerry's family will receive relatives and friends on Monday December 8th from 10:00am to 12:00pm at Yalesville Funeral Home 386 Main St. Yalesville. A Funeral Service will commence at the funeral home at 12noon, with military honors. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gerry's memory to either The Sisters' Project thesistersproject.org or Hartford HealthCare at Home - Hospice Care hartfordhealthcare.org.
