Gerald Austin Nance, departed this earthly realm peacefully on March 30, 2025, in serene surroundings in Jacksonville, Florida. Known best as Jerry among friends and as Papa by his grandchildren.

Born in Knoxville, Tennessee, Jerry's early years were spent in Louisville, Kentucky, where he met his wife to be Phyllis Loretta (Brueck). Together they had four wonderful children.

Jerry had a passion for discussing politics and history, often sharing his insights with whoever would listen.

Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Maxine, his wife Phyllis, his son Freddie, his sister Carolyn, and his brother David. Although he is no longer with us, his spirit continues to resonate through the lives of his survivors: his daughters Barbara Zimlich (James) and Victoria Nance, along with his son John Nance (Kelly). His grandchildren—Jimmy Zimlich Jr. (Ashley), Jamie Zimlich, Jake Nance, Reilly Nance Pinella (Matt), Claire Nance, and Luke Nance.

In honor of Jerry’s rich life, a visitation will be held on April 4, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Naugle Funeral Home and Cremation Services, located at 1203 Hendricks Avenue, Jacksonville, Florida 32207. This will be followed by a graveside service at Oaklawn Cemetery at 11:30 AM. A repass will take place thereafter for family and friends to gather.

As we remember Jerry, let us remember the remarkable life he led.
