Gerald O. Odom, 80, passed away on Thursday, September 14, 2023 in a local hospital.
Mr. Odom was a Native of Jacksonville and a graduate of Andrew Jackson Sr. High School, class of 1960. He was a Retired Veteran of the US Airforce National Guard. He also worked for many years on Jacksonville's Drug Taskforce Team in conjunction with the U.S. Customs Agency and retired from Lockhead Martin, Kings Bay location. Mr. Odom was an active member of the former East 44th Street Baptist Church, played softball with Wingate Baptist Church, loved working as an amateur carpenter as well as loved music and fishing. He was a long time season ticket holder to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Mr. Odom is preceded in death by his parents: Osavell "O.C." Odom and Avedell Odom; son: Bryan Odom; daughter: Melaina Lynn Odom; brother: Andy Odom and a sister: Theresa Odom. He is survived by his wife: Mickie; daughter Lori Burgess (Stephen); sister Connie Durbano; 2 grandchildren: Robert Keith Burgess and Britteny Michelle Reid (Benjamin); 2 great grandchildren: Owen Daniel Reid and Caroline Michelle Reid and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 at the Event Center at Peeples, 14165 N. Main Street (Building C) with Rev. David McCree officiating.
Burial will follow at 2:30 PM at Jacksonville National Cemetery with full military honors.
His family will receive friends from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the funeral home prior to the service.
The family would like to thank the memory care staff at The Fountains at Mill Cove for providing wonderful care, support and love for our precious Gerald.
