Batavia - It is with heavy hearts that we share that Gerald David Post, age 92, passed away on Monday, March 9, 2026 at Crossroads House surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on November 23, 1933 in Batavia, son of the late W. Arthur and Frances Richards Post.
David grew up on his great grandfather's farm and was a 1952 graduate of Batavia Junior-Senior High School, he furthered his education at Buffalo State College where he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education in 1955 and his Master's Degree in 1960.
He was a beloved teacher for 39 years, teaching in Niagara Falls, Orcutt, CA and Batavia City School District, retiring in 1994. He served as the assessor for the Village of Alexander from 1974-1989 and the Town of Alexander from 1976-1989.
A member of the First Presbyterian Church in Batavia, he served as an elder, on the worship and Christian education committees and taught Sunday school for over 50 years. David was a member of the Batavia Teachers Association, New York State Retired Teachers Association and Genesee Retired Teachers Association where he served as treasurer for many years. He served on the Batavia City Council from 1994-1995 and the Zoning Board of Appeals from 1996-2008. He was a trustee for the Batavia Cemetery Association and held the position of treasurer for several years. He also volunteered for the Genesee County Chamber of Commerce for a number of years.
David had many hobbies which included model railroads, model cars, reading, gardening, building model historic homes, computer games and most recently he discovered that he could find anything and everything on YouTube (especially enjoying listening to the Cape Town South African Choir music). David and Nancy enjoyed traveling with their family to Myrtle Beach and many camping trips as well as after he retired they travelled to San Diego, Window Rock, AZ, Hawaii and had many railroad adventures.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy Whyman Post whom he married on November 19, 1960; his children, Shari (James) Otis of Batavia, Wendy (Lorenzo) Peshlakai of Phoenix, Arizona and Robert (Debbie) Post of Batavia; five grandchildren, Adam Steinbrenner, Katie Steinbrenner and Andrew (Julianna) Steinbrenner, Sarah (Seth) Stevens and Caleb (Kirsten) Peshlakai; seven great-grandchildren, Adrian, Logan, Noah, Mya, Cooper, Willow and Madelyn; his brother, Donald (Deborah) Post of Rochester and many nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his son Mark Post, his brother, Richard (Marilyn) Post and his sister-in-law Barbara Graham.
There are no prior calling hours. Friends are invited to his Memorial Service on Saturday, March 21, 2026 at 1pm at The First Presbyterian Church of Batavia, 300 East Main Street, Batavia with a luncheon to follow. Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family at Batavia Cemetery.
