Gerald (Jerry) Herman Rathman, Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Friday, 04/18/25, at the age of 87.

Jerry was born in Bloomfield, NE on May 8, 1937, to Herman and Dora (Leuenhagen) Rathman. He graduated from Central High School in 1956. After high school Jerry worked various trade jobs before beginning his 35-year career with IPS/Mid-American Energy.

Jerry married Daniece Montange on August 16, 1958. From this union, four children were born, Rick Robbe, Randy and Kristi. Jerry married Ann Punt, on Dec 2, 1976, in Elk Point, SD. They made their home in Sergeant Bluff, IA. Ann passed away on 12/24/24.

Jerry was a longtime member of Morningside Lutheran Church and participated in various church activities.

Jerry and Ann both loved to camp, especially in Yankton, SD. Many memories were made in “The Bandit”. Later in life, they would frequently camp in Correctionville. They spent winters in Florida for the last 25 years. Jerry’s hobbies also included hunting, gun collecting, cars and whittling.

Jerry is survived by sons; Rick (Pam) Rathman, Houston, TX and Randy (Kim) Rathman, Lawton, IA; daughters; Robbe Clark, Houston, TX and Kristi (Brian) Pingel, Cedar Rapids, IA, and two stepdaughters; Tami (Brad) Bliven, Belton, TX and Sandi Reynders, Sioux City, IA; grandchildren Brandyn (John) Rathman, Zach Rathman, Jesse (Alyssa) Derrick, Spencer (Jackie) Bliven, Jaimee Derrick, Megan (Anthony) Kirk, Jeffrey (Brittny) Sward, Jason (Emily) Reynders, Nathan Pingel, Riley Pingel, and Jonas Pingel.

He is also survived by his brother-in-law; John (Helen) Jansen, and ten great-grandchildren. Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, parents and brother, Ron. 

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, May 2, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, 3220 Stone Park Blvd, Sioux City, IA. Visitation will begin at 10:00 A.M. Burial will follow in Orange City, IA.
